Figure Skater Johnny Weir To Turn Clothing Designer!

If you love men’s figure skater Johnny Weir as much as I do, then this is good news. Well, entertaining news to say the least. WWD is reporting that the champion skater, currently competing in the Vancouver Olympics, will be branching out into fashion!
The 25-year old confirmed these new sartorial ambitions in an interview on HBO’s Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel, where he said he would go into fashion in a “big way,” opening his own multi-category collection — as well as retail stores
This isn’t much of a stretch. Weir has been contributing to the designs of his skating outfits for years.
His costume designer, Stephanie Handler, who has been working with Weir since he was 13, told WWD
“He’s been wanting to design since he began to skate. He loves fashion and clothes and all that stuff. I’m sure he will wait until the Olympics are over and then he will get down to business,” she said. “At this point, he knows enough about the amount of work that goes into designing to do his own. He brings in sketches to me and I work with him to clarify things. He’s really into choosing everything all the way down to the last details.”
I cannot wait to see what Johnny comes up with. I mean, it’s one thing to design for the ice, and something completely different to design for street style.
